The Addis Ababa city council held its 4th regular assembly in the 3rd year. During the assembly, Mayor Adanech Abebe presented a report detailing the performance of Addis Ababa in attracting foreign tourism investment.
According to the mayor’s report, Addis Ababa had set a target of earning 59.73 billion birr from foreign tourists. To the council’s delight, the city was able to exceed this target, securing over 59 billion birr in investments from international visitors.
The report also revealed that Addis Ababa welcomed a significant influx of tourists in the 2016 fiscal year. The city hosted 928,000 foreign visitors as well as 9.1 million domestic travelers during this period.
Furthermore, the mayor highlighted the city’s efforts to promote its cultural offerings, noting that 349 works of art had been made available to the public. This initiative was aimed at positioning Addis Ababa as an attractive tourist destination.
Looking ahead, the council stated that they will be undertaking wider promotional campaigns to raise awareness of the diverse Addis Ababa tourism attractions. This strategic move is expected to drive even greater visitation numbers in the future.
