The drivers in Addis Ababa have been facing difficulties due to the recent fuel shortages at gas stations. They have expressed their frustration, stating that the lack of fuel poses a significant challenge to their work. And it occurs approximately once or twice a month.
The drivers have also complained that the government is not responding promptly to address this issue. They feel that they are being subjected to severe harassment due to the frequent fuel shortages.
When asked about the matter, the Addis Ababa Trade Bureau claimed that they have provided sufficient fuel to the gas stations and are unaware of any shortages. Mr. Sewunt Ayele, the Director of Communications of the City Administration’s Commercial Office, acknowledged that there have been demonstrations for fuel in some areas.
Despite the Commercial Office’s claim that they do not have information about fuel shortages in the capital city, long queues have been observed at gas stations since last Thursday, indicating that there is indeed a shortage of fuel supply.
In summary, the drivers are struggling with a recurring fuel shortage that the government appears unable or unwilling to resolve on time, leading to frustration and a sense of unfair treatment among the transportation workers.

The reason for fuel shortages is too much governmental involvement. In countries where private sector is allowed to import and trade fuel, you never have fuel shortages.
Why the denial. It doesn’t help resolve the problem. The long queues are living evidence
Let us find the root cause and face the problem
Such denial and pointing fingers have been dragging us for long. It is high time that we declare it and fight it
I encountered one gas station which immediately pushed away the queues when the electric power suddenly gone . They didn’tseem to ask the drivers to wait till the electric power came back. They didn’t like to sell it to the drivers. I verified that light was not there. So we all shifted to the nearby gas station where they happily welcome us and we filled up our share but under generator electric power . I am skeptics of the former gas station. I suggest the government should watch each and every gas station.
I am very sad about the transport service provider. They suffered such a long line wait I patiently with empty stomach and waste of working time. I am professional who by chance was not in a hurry and not under stress like those transport service provider.
Why is the Government involve with fuel. Ethiopia don’t produce fuel. That should be for the private sector. Unless they are buying Government to Government. Then they aquire a board as administrator. This board should insure that there is a surplus at all times. Fuel is an important commodity. Give thanks
