Addis Ababa Police Recovers Stolen Phones from Repair Shop

Four suspects were arrested by Addis Ababa police, Ethiopia for stealing mobile phones from individuals and operating a shop to repair the stolen phones. The arrests occurred in the Bole sub-city, Woreda 14 area on June 11, 2024 during an operation to control illegal development activities.

Two suspects were initially apprehended while riding a motorcycle, with one suspect fleeing the scene. The victim, Mr. Surafel Biable, reported the crime to the Gerji area police station. Police later arrested two additional suspects, bringing the total to four.

On June 22, 2024, police raided the shop rented by the suspects and recovered 32 stolen smartphones. Addis Ababa police stated they will hold accountable those who commit crimes by operating businesses as a front. The police also announced that anyone who had a phone stolen can come to the Bole sub-city police station to retrieve their property.
