The Addis Ababa City Administration Traffic Management Authority has declared that buildings without qualification certificates cannot offer parking spaces underneath them. Only buildings that possess these certificates may provide parking facilities.
In a recent press release, Addis Ababa officials discussed the approval of vehicle parking service regulation number 165/2016. To obtain this certificate, buildings must implement a digital system that tracks various aspects of parking operations. This system should monitor vehicle entry and exit, utilize appropriate traffic signage, and keep a record of the total number of parking spaces and their occupancy status.
The authority announced that this regulation, formulated three years ago and approved two months ago, will take effect next week. Building owners will receive a preparation period to comply with these new requirements.
This legislation specifically targets those who have secured a parking permit as part of their building permit process. Elias Zerga, the deputy director of the authority, noted that around 300 buildings in the capital can provide parking services, with a combined capacity for approximately 3,000 vehicles.
