The traffic management authority of Addis Ababa city administration has issued a statement regarding the directive number 149/2024 issued to monitor and regulate the movement of heavy vehicles. The directive is applicable to various liquid and dry cargo vehicles and construction machinery that enter the Addis Ababa city region and move within the city and pass through the city.
The directive applies to trucks / vehicles with a load capacity of more than 1 ton or 10 quintals. These vehicles are restricted from being able to move from 1:00 am to 3:00 am and from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Stopping, loading, unloading and movement of goods on road is banned.
The new policy will be effective from September 12, 2024 and does not apply to Sundays and holidays.
What are the penalties in case of violations?
- A fine of 10 thousand birr for parking on main roads during prohibited hours.
- 20 thousand birr fine for operating within the prohibited time limit.
- After being punished for violating the time limit stipulated in the guidelines, any person who repeats the offense for the second time will pay double the above-mentioned penalty.
Those who have complaints can submit their complaints in writing to the authority and the authority’s decision will be final. The directive will not apply to military vehicles, emergency vehicles and fuel transfer trucks.
